About Sherri Reny

Sherri met the author of Horses I Have Known, Doris Halstead, when she was only 1 1/2 years old and Doris was her physical therapist. Sherri was diagnosed with cerebral palsy which involved severe spasm of both her legs with some involvement in her hands. She wore glasses from the age of 10 months, and it was thought that she'd never be able to walk.

Sherri fooled us all. She did walk, though with crutches and ankle braces. See her in this book on page 50, currying her horse. Dyslexia haunted her and she repeated kindergarden and first grade. Eventually, when Sherri was entering 10th grade, she and her mother moved to Florida where she graduated in 1994 from East Bay High school in Apollo Beach. They later moved to Florence, SC, where they now reside.

Sherri is a self-taught artist, constantly dabbling in many different techniques. Some of these drawings were done on everyday items such as a table napkin or the back of a cereal box. Sherri's disability check does not cover cost of fancy art materials. Some are pictures which she has altered to give exciting effects. We think you will truly enjoy them.

Sherri has shared with us that one of her dreams for the future is to move back to Florida or perhaps Arizona where the flat terrain and warm temperatures are much easier on her muscles and joints. We wish her success in her efforts to attain more independence and to accomplish the move she so much desires.
